IPOH: An 11-year-old girl was taken on a terror ride by a stranger in his car after he picked her up while she was playing outside her teacher’s house in Taman Meru.
She was found more than three hours later in Gopeng, about 20km away.
In the 8.15pm incident on Wednesday, the girl and her nine-year-old brother had finished their religious class at their teacher’s house about 50m from their home.
The boy said they were playing outside the house before going home.
“A man in a green Perodua MyVi stopped in front of our teacher’s house and asked us where he could find the nearest shop to top up the credit of his mobile phone.
“He offered us RM1 if we agreed to follow him in his car to give directions. My sister got into the car and the man drove off,” the boy said at his home in Jelapang yesterday.
Suspecting something amiss, the boy informed his teacher, who asked him to alert his parents.
The girl’s father, a civil servant, lodged a police report at the Jelapang station and then filed a missing person report after failing to find his daughter in the housing area.
At 11.30pm, the girl’s mother received a call from her daughter who said she was at the Gopeng police station.
It was unclear who had sent the girl there.
The girl was sent to Kampar Hospital before being referred to Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun for a check-up.
Perak deputy police chief Senior Asst Comm (I) Datuk Zakaria Yusof said police had identified a suspect.
“We are confident of nabbing him soon,” he told reporters here after accompanying Deputy Home Minister Datuk Lee Chee Leong on a working visit to the Home Ministry complex.
On July 29, Nurmuni Ainun Izzati, 15, fought off two men who abducted her while she was waiting for her mother outside her school in Kota Baru.
One of the men dragged her into the back seat of the car but Nurmuni said she used her taekwando skills to fight him off, causing the car to skid and land in a ditch.
The two men who fled were later arrested.
