Yeoh spent all day Monday with Suu Kyi as part of research for an upcoming film in which she will play the democracy leader, according to Suu Kyi’s lawyer Nyan Win. (AP Photo)

Malaysian-born Michelle Yeoh is a household name that’s reached international stardom, having starred in films like ‘Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon’, ‘The Police Story’ and James Bond’s ‘Tomorrow Never Dies’. And if the reports are true, the former beauty queen might be starring as Aung San Suu Kyi, Myanmar’s beloved pro-democracy champion in a biopic.

According to BBC News, Michelle reportedly met Suu Kyi and had dinner together on Monday night, the latter’s lawyer said. “I understand she is planning to play her in a film in the near future,” he added. Suu Kyi had been released on 13 November, after spending 20 years under house arrest.

Because Hollywood loves a good remake, and if Michelle Yeoh decides to pass on the gig, we’ve rounded up some names who could play the pro-democracy champion, with a bit of script tweaking.
